Pore-clogging ingredients in products can cause or increase acne. Those with acne-prone skin need to be extra cautious about all personal care products. If you suffer from acne we suggest always checking the ingredients contained in anything you put on your skin or your hair. Be aware that the terms 'Oil-Free',  “Won’t Clog Pores” or “Non-Comedogenic” on the bottle do not mean that the product will not contribute to your acne. We also recommend sulfate-free cosmetic, hair, lip and toothpaste products be used. Sulfates may aggravate acne and can be skin irritants for some. While skincare and now even haircare and cosmetics companies market their products for acne-prone skin, no government agency oversees their effectiveness for treating acne. 

Natural oils and butters can be some of the worst offenders, like cocoa butter and coconut oil which are found in many “organic” skin care lines. Other oils such as jojoba, olive, avocado, sunflower and lanolin are mildly pore-clogging and can be a problem, especially if formulated with other comedogenic ingredients. Hair products of all types can contribute to acne on the body and face. Natural and Organic does NOT mean that a product does not have pore-clogging ingredients!
